Corn filled bags are the standard for the game of corn hole. The bags are actually filled with whole kernel corn. Why is this important for the game? Well, the corn in the bags actually does effect the game because every time you throw the bags, the corn breaks down a little bit and creates some dust (flour). This effects the game by leaving a bit of dust on the boards and making them more slippery.
Is there any down side to corn filled cornhole bags?
The down side is that they are filled with whole kernel corn! All this means is that they can not get wet! If they get wet, they will rot – they will get moldy and nasty. But, would you play cornhole in the rain anyway? Probably not. So, the only time this is a problem is if you leave them out in the rain or if you use the game in a wet environment – like on a beach or right next to a pool. If you need the bags to be weather resistant, the all weather bags may be a better option.
What if I really want corn filled bags and there is a chance they might get a little wet? Let’s admit it, there’s always that one guy who just can’t seem to keep his drink in his cup – that’s the guy who will undoubtedly end up spilling on your boards and bags! Don’t worry, this is common in cornhole. But, nobody wants to be THAT GUY. Anyway, if and when this happens, just wipe off the boards and set the bags out to dry. If the bags have not been completely drenched and can be left to dry in a dry spot for 24 – 48 hours they should be just fine.
All weather bags are filled with recycled plastic pellets so they will not be sensitive to moisture. Choose these bags if you are worried that they will be exposed to rain or water and you need them to not get ruined.
