Blazin With Love 5K Run/Walk, Sponsored by PowerNet Global, Raises Over $20K

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) October 26, 2011

The first Annual Blazin With Love 5K Run/Walk and Way North Sports Cornhole Tournament, presented by PowerNet Global, netted nearly $ 21,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), Tri-State Southern Ohio Chapter. More than 300 people braved the record-breaking 100-degree heat on September 3, including approximately 150 runners and 24 cornhole teams.

In addition to sponsoring the event, PowerNet Global also provided mini first-aid kits and lip balm for participant goodie bags. Other event highlights included an appearance by Brian Douglas of Q102 as the master of ceremonies and an expansive silent auction that raised more than $ 4,200.

Barb Williams, senior financial analyst for PowerNet Global said, “A representative of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Tri-State Southern Ohio Chapter told me that even though this is the first time that this event was held, it ended up being the highest grossing race in all of southwest Ohio so far this year. I am very proud to be working for a company that walks the walk as well as talks the talk when it comes to supporting its local community.”

We are overwhelmed by the support we received and are especially thankful to PowerNet Global for believing in us and providing the sponsorship that allowed this event to really take off, says Christine Lothrop, race co-director. We never dreamed we would raise this amount, and we are so thrilled to be helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society continue life-saving research and provide support to the families.

Lothrop is the parent of one of the five children honored by the event. Of the five, one child completed a bone marrow transplant over the winter, another underwent a transplant this fall, and three are in remission. All have battled long treatment phases and debilitating side effects yet all are getting second chances that werent available as little as two decades ago.

Survival rates today are better than 80 percent, compared to only five percent just twenty years ago, notes Michelle Steed, executive director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Tri-State Southern Ohio Chapter. With continuing research advancements, we can save even more lives, reduce treatment side effects, and hopefully, also find a cure one day.
